Frequently Asked Questions

What does a typical night at Curbside look like?

Keep in mind, WE ARE A STREET MINISTRY! No two nights look exactly the same, and sometimes it can get messy. What we would like for a “typical night” to look like includes a short devotion, a meal, and activities such as: jump rope, nail painting, board games, and other fun games located on the Curbside Van.  This is a time for RELATIONSHIPS! We believe one of the best ways to form relationships and talk about Jesus might be thru nail painting!

If it is your first night serving with us, we NEED you to find someone in a Curbside t-shirt, so they can assist you in getting a “Green Checklist.” This checklist will give you all the ways of connecting with us.

How do I get involved?

This is the MOST Frequently Asked Question. Why? Because people tend to lean towards logistics. BUT we like to keep things simple and easy. Any and all paperwork is done on the front end, and for your benefit. So head on over and fill out the Volunteer Application.  If you have any questions you can contact Heather Schapiro, our volunteer coordinator, at lesley@curbsideministries.com.

After that, consider yourself apart of the team! Jump right in! Make this ministry YOUR OWN! Any calling or gift you feel like God is telling you to use, Curbside is your vessel to us it. Crafts, cooking classes, you name it! We are for it!

Can I bring my family to serve on the streets with me?

Absolutely! What better way to teach your child to be more Christ-like than serving your neighbor!

2 Timothy 4:12 – “Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young…”

All are welcome!

As far as logistics, we do ask that any family member over the age of 18 fill out our Volunteer Application.

What do you suggest I do the first time I attend Curbside?

Depending on your personality, introvert or extrovert, you make the call! We do ask that you, first, find someone in a Curbside t-shirt that can get you plugged in through a “Green Checklist.” Our checklist is for you to connect with us, so please follow the steps provided.

  • If your the type that needs to watch and observe before you take action, feel free to do just that! You may want to corner another volunteer and ask any questions you may have before any hands on, which is completely fine!
  • If you are an extrovert, go for it! Jump right in and grab a game or jump rope from the van and get to forming those relationships.
Am I allowed on the Curbside Van?
YES! Please! The Van is overflowing with games, activities, and FUN! Find your own games and get to having a great time!
As a volunteer, how much responsibility, regarding discipline, do I have?

The answer is tricky. We are always more about relationships than rules. However, we understand there is a certain amount of structure that comes with fun. Think this way: if you are playing corn hole at Curbside and one child hurls a bean bag at another, we ask that you use this as a teaching opportunity. Keep in mind, the kids we serve really do want to know how to play a game correctly. They simply just don’t know the rules, which can cause frustration.

If this responsibility makes you uncomfortable, NO PROBLEM! Feel free to grab a site leader to step in.

Is there a difference between Curbside locations?

YES! NIGHT AND DAY! Before deciding on any one location, we ask that new volunteers check all locations out. We have noticed every volunteer seems to find a peace and a place at one or the other. There are a handful of volunteers who serve and enjoy both Bowling Green locations.

We want YOU to be most comfortable!

If your calendar only permits you to serve on a certain night of the week, we encourage you to give this location several “tries” before saying no to serving on the streets. We have found that the more you come, the more you are willing to go the distance.

Am I expected to be at Curbside weekly?

No…that is the beauty of this ministry. We want you to serve as often as you desire and your schedule permits. We cast no judgement on your decision. QUALITY over quantity!

I'm not a believer. Am I welcome to serve at Curbside?

Absolutely. It is obvious you are seeking or you wouldn’t be considering this ministry, so we ask that you keep an open mind as you participate. Please be more about listening and learning than lecturing.

Is there an opportunity for groups to serve together?

Yes. You and your group are always welcome on the streets! If your group prefers behind the scenes, we have on going projects you can help us with.

To sign your group up for a service project day, email us at curbsidec3@gmail.com

Does Curbside accept Internships / Externships?

Yes. We prefer high school or college interns, and they must have a valid drivers license and a vehicle. Initially, all internships are unpaid.

To submit an internship application, email curbsidec3@gmail.com

When I come to Curbside, where do I park my car?

Parker Bennett: in front of the Parker Bennett Community Center or on the street by the playground.

Lee Pointe: large parking lot to the left of the Curbside Connection Center (this is our neighbor lot, so be mindful of their property.) We ask that you DO NOT park in the Curbside small parking lot to the right of the Curbside Connection Center, as it is used for play area.

What happens when it gets cold outside?

Parker Bennett: Curbside rents out the Parker Bennett Community Center next to the playground at Parker Bennett through the winter months. We call this “Curbside Inside.” Curbside Inside has a more intimate setting with Bible studies for our older attendees, and more board games/kid friendly games for the younger. If you choose to join us for the first time during the winter season, please do not be intimidated by the enclosed venue. We still have JUST as much fun Inside with our typical “less structured” feel.

Lee Pointe: Due to safety, Curbside’s leadership and Board of Directors made the ultimate decision for our Lee Pointe volunteers to do Curbside on the streets through the end of October and pick back up in March.

Does Curbside hit the streets year-round?

Basically, yes. We do give our volunteers the month(s) of December-January to refresh and enjoy the holidays. We do cancel weekly outings for bad weather and major holidays.

How can I start a Curbside in my area?

See Start Up Guide on the website. Once you have reviewed and prayed about the “next”, feel free to reach out to us for a meeting at curbsidec3@gmail.com

Does Curbside accept new / used clothes?

We prefer not to receive clothing. We suggested that you take your new/lightly used clothes to the International Center in Bowling Green.
